A French Childhood Cancer Survivor Study for Leukemia study."},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Camille Vercasson, Pascal Auquier, G\u00e9rard Michel, Yves Bertrand, Sophie Ansoborlo, Marie-Dominique Tabone, Guy Leverger, Virginie Gandemer, Andr\u00e9 Baruchel, Audrey Contet, Jean-Hugues Dalle, Catherine Paillard, Maryline Poir\u00e9e, Sandrine Thouvenin-Doulet, Nicolas Sirvent, Justyna Kanold, Claire Freycon, Zeinab Hamidou and Julie Berbis.<\/h3>\n<h3>Pediatric Blood &amp; Cancer. 2020 Aug 15;e28419.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32798263\/\">https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32798263\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Introduction<\/h2>\n<p>Our objectives were to assess the quality of life (QoL) of parents of childhood leukemia survivors compared with population norms and to identify the determinants of parents\u2019 long-term QoL.<\/p>\n<h2>Methods<\/h2>\n<p>Parents of minors who had survived childhood leukemia participating in the French LEA cohort (Leuc\u00e9mie de l\u2019Enfant et de l\u2019Adolescent\u2014French Childhood Cancer Survivor Study for Leukemia) were asked to complete the French version of the WHOQOL-BREF. Results were compared with age- and sex-matched values from a French reference population. Parents\u2019 and survivors\u2019 characteristics likely to be associated with QoL, long after the child\u2019s leukemia diagnosis, were explored using multivariate analysis.<\/p>\n<h2>Results<\/h2>\n<p>We included 487 parents (mean age 42.9\u00b16.0 years, mean follow-up time from diagnosis 7.3 \u00b1 3.3 years). Compared with the reference population, scores for physical health and social relationships for parents of childhood leukemia survivors were significantly lower (P&lt;0.001, effect size=0.24 and P&lt;0.001, effect size=0.29, respectively) contrary to scores for psychological health which were significantly higher (P&lt;0.001,effectsize=0.29). Even if health- and cancer-related characteristics were associated with parents\u2019 QoL in some dimensions, the only factor associated with each of the three dimensions (social relationships, physical health, and psychological) in the multivariate analysis was the parent\u2019s financial situation.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Long after leukemia diagnosis, the parents reported lower scores in the physical health and social relationship domains.
